Talked me out of the expensive one because the room gets almost no traffic. Fitted the cheaper floor beautifully and I have sent them to two neighbours since.

Hi — we’ve pulled up the old carpet in the living room and there are floorboards underneath with big gaps. Can you fit LVT straight over that or does something have to go down first?

Not straight over, no — LVT is only 5mm and it telegraphs every gap and every board edge within about six months. Those boards need ply first.
- 6mm plywood screwed at 150mm centres, joints staggered
- Sanded flush at the sheet joins
- Then LVT bonded down over the top
Adds about £14/m² and half a day. Worth it — the two failed LVT floors we get called to lift every month are both this.

16m² plus 10% waste, so 18m² ordered. Three options at that size, supplied and fitted, ply included:
- Budget LVT, 2.5mm — £760
- Mid-range LVT, 4.5mm — £1,040
- Premium LVT, herringbone — £1,690
All three include lifting and tipping the old underlay, the ply, beading, and the trim to the hall. No VAT surprise — the prices above are what you pay.
