Iona Fletcher

Registered Dietitian (HCPC) · Gut health, RED-S and recovery

Eleven years in the NHS before going independent in 2021. I work with people whose relationship with food has got complicated — through IBS, through sport, or through an eating disorder — and my job is to make eating boring again, in the best possible sense.

How I work

No meal plans, no food lists on the fridge

A meal plan works for about three weeks, and then real life arrives — a late meeting, a bad night, a child who will only eat beige. So we do not start there. We start with what you actually eat in a normal week, what your body is doing with it, and which single change would make the biggest difference for the least misery. Then we build from there, one thing at a time, with a review every three or four weeks to see whether it held. I am regulated by the HCPC and a member of the BDA, which means I can interpret bloods, work alongside your GP or consultant, and advise on medication timing around food. It also means there is a real complaints route if I get something wrong.

Fibre is not one thing, and that is why the advice keeps failing you

Fibre is not one thing, and that is why the advice keeps failing you

Soluble, insoluble, fermentable, resistant starch — why “eat more fibre” makes some people much worse before it makes anyone better.

What under-fuelling actually looks like in a club runner

What under-fuelling actually looks like in a club runner

Not the textbook picture. Usually: a stalled parkrun time, three colds since January, and a stress fracture nobody connected to breakfast.

Reintroduction is the whole point of low-FODMAP

Reintroduction is the whole point of low-FODMAP

The elimination phase is six weeks. Too many people stay on it for two years and end up with a smaller diet and a worse microbiome.
