What I actually do all day

A live-in nanny is not a babysitter who sleeps over. I run the children’s half of a household: their laundry, their food, their appointments, their nap schedule, and the hundred small decisions that otherwise land on a parent at 6pm. Everything else in the house is somebody else’s job, and I am firm about that line because it is what makes a placement last.

The best compliment I have had: “We stopped having the same argument every evening.”

What I ask for

A private room and bathroom, and a door that closes on my time off.
A written work agreement — hours, guaranteed pay, overtime, vacation, sick days, and how we end it if it isn’t working.
Payroll on the books, with taxes withheld. I have never worked any other way.
A two-week paid trial before either of us commits to a year.

Two parents working hospital shifts, boy/girl twins, and a golden retriever who thinks he is a third child.

Ran the night shift for the first fourteen weeks, then handed both babies to a 7pm bedtime that held.
Built the feeding and pumping schedule with a lactation consultant and kept the log both parents lived by.
Took both twins through their first year of preschool drop-offs, swim lessons and a dairy allergy diagnosis.

Started at eleven weeks with a first baby; stayed through the arrival of a second.

Managed the transition from one child to two, including the sibling regression nobody warns you about.
